A/N: Long Chapter LOL, I hope you all enjoy this one; this is probably the most emotional one I've written so far. Leave a Comment.
Sly and his gang were at Dimitri's apartment, laying low for three days since their heist at the museum. Everyone was very proud of Sly, considering how it was their best heist yet and how he managed to slip away from Carmelita once again. While he was happy and was grateful to succeed thanks to his friends, still so many things were occupying his mind. Even though he had better control of his parent issues, the nightmares still occurred from time to time and rather relentlessly. But, definitely not as bad as they had been since before they arrived in New York. He knew he had to put his childhood trauma to rest once and for all. He wasn't sure how at the moment…but he knew there had to be a way.
Another thing that was floating aimlessly in his mind was once again Carmelita Fox. Sly replayed that moment of their make-out session constantly. Every time he thought about it, he felt slightly embarrassed and aroused. He was also still baffled by the vixen's decision to let him go, without any chasing or struggle involved. He felt unsure about all of this and while he knew she more than likely had reciprocated those feelings for him (after all she pulled him deeper to continue their kiss), part of him felt as if he was rushing things too fast. He was relieved that the heavy emotional baggage was finally lifted off of him after admitting his true affections for the Inspector. However, was putting the moves on her like that the best decision? He sighed as he plopped on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. He didn't know at this point. The only thing he knew right now was that the more he thought of her, the more his erection started to throb. He groaned.
'Great.' Sly mumbled to himself in sexual agony.
He was attracted to her, but his arousal wasn't just from sexual thoughts. It was just the idea of being with Carmelita and making her happy. She could be the one, his soul mate. Or maybe he was over thinking this?
He sighed again.
He knew the next time he saw her, things were going to be different and he had a hunch she would probably pretend it never happened. He was going to prove it to her during their next rendezvous that things can work out.
'Man, I have a lot going on now.' He sat up and went to the bathroom to take a cold shower.
Two weeks has passed since the heist. They auctioned off the Sword of The Samurai on Thiefnet to someone in Japan and received a good sum of money from it. They split the cash in four ways and everyone was content, especially Dimitri, who was going to use his money to open up a Chicken and Waffles/Night Club.
'I'm tellin' ya Cracker-Box, it's gonna be off the chain! Banging chicken wings and scrumptious waffles and some good clubbing music! You can't go wrong with that homeboy! ' Dimitri said with pride.
'I'll take your word for it Dimitri.' Sly replied as he and his friends giggled at the Iguana.
Sly turned the television on to Rap City, watching artists' videos such as Mystikal, A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, OutKast, among other things. As much as he liked watching Rap City, his mind drifted elsewhere.
Sly and his gang were enjoying their time in New York, a lot longer than they thought they would. It was in the middle of October and it was getting colder, not that it bothered Sly or his friends very much. They knew that New York can get colder than that. During the two week period, he visited Damien. He still had to be cautious since he wasn't sure if Carmelita was still in New York or not. Luckily, he had yet to be caught but he always had to keep his guard up, regardless.
Sly could honestly say that those two weeks were the greatest he has ever had in his life. Being around Damien gave him a sense of peace and joy that he hasn't felt since he has been here. It's not that Sly didn't like being around Bentley, Murray, and Dimitri (and maybe to a certain extent, Carmelita). It's just that with Damien, it was just different. In some ways, Damien was like him but he knew the meerkat's life was different compared to Sly's childhood. Everytime he saw the little boy's big brown eyes and gleeful smile, it just made him sad to see the life he had to deal with. He also felt sorry for Mrs. Jones and how stressful it was to raise another child.
Sly wasn't sure why but for some reason paternal instincts tend to switch on whenever Damien was around. He didn't exactly understand why, considering how the Raccoon was only twenty-one and the meerkat being eight-years-old and had no real experiences with children. But part of him wanted to protect the child and just make him happy and not worry about anything around him. As Sly leaned back on the couch, he thought about their day at the park afterschool…
'Hey Sylvester catch this!' Damien shouted as he threw the football to Sly.
Sly caught it and cheered.
'YAHHHOOOO! I'm the man!'
Today was a great day to play at the park and the weather wasn't so bad, it was an unusually warm day in the month of October. Sly and Damien were playing catch with the football and enjoying each others' company. The meerkat recovered from his injured from last month fairly quickly and didn't have to be so cautious.
The meerkat ran over to Sly.
'Well Sylvester, I guess you are the man.'
'I'm glad you know.' Sly smiled.
'But not for long!' Then Damien snatched the football out of his hands and took off.
'You're not gonna get away with that!' Sly laughed as he chased the kid around the park.
'Yo man! You slow, you can't even get me!' He called out.
When Damien looked back and saw that the Raccoon wasn't behind him. He looked around but Sly just disappeared.
'Where he go?' The confused meerkat asked.
Without warning, Sly surprised the meerkat by grabbing from behind and started to tickle him.
'Stop Sylvester! Stop!' He said between giggles.
'Say I'm the greatest and then I'll stop.'
'You may be the man but you ain't the greatest!' He said again between laughter.
'Oh really? If you feel that way, then I'll keep at it.' Sly tickled him some more.
'Yo man! Ok, ok you the greatest!' Then Sly ceased his tickle torture.
'How about we get something to eat?' Sly queried.
'Yeah, I am hungry. Let's go to that wing place down the street.' Damien grinned.
'No problem.'
'Sly?'
'Yes, Damey?'
'Thanks man, I had a great time.' He said as he picked up the football.
'Hey you're welcome buddy.' And with that, the two of them left the park.
Sly also thought of when he and Damien went to Coney Island…
'Man Sylvester, that was so awesome! When we went on the Cyclone and how fast it went once we went down! Oh God, I thought I was gonna pee my pants! It's been a while since I got on there.' Damien was so energetic and speeding through his sentences, that Sly himself was surprised that he caught up with what the meerkat was saying.
'It was very excited, but roller coasters were never much my thing. I lost my lunch afterwards.' Sly said wearily as the two of them walked to a game booth.
'You sure did, boy was that gross. But there are roller coasters that are way, way scarier than the Cyclone. Go to Six Flags!' Both of them laughed.
The vendor who ran the game booth approached them.
'Welcome! Welcome! Try to knock all these jars and you'll win a prize!'
Sly handed the vendor three dollars and received three balls.
'Let me try Sylvester!' Damien was jumping ecstatically.
'Go for it, Dame.'
Damien took the first ball, spun his arm a few times, and threw it but missed the jars.
'Try again.' Sly said.
Damien took another ball and threw it without much thought but only knocked down one jar.
'One more time.' The vendor said.
Damien was getting someone annoyed but he felt Sly touch his shoulder.
'Just breathe Damey. Don't get upset, just stay focus and let yourself go. Just throw it right in the middle.'
Damien did what he was told and closed his eyes. Then he focused his aim at the jars and threw the ball once again and he knocked them all down, much to the vendor's surprise.
'I did it Sylvester! You saw me?!'
'Of course, you did great.'
The vendor smiled.
'Ok kid, pick your prize.'
There were various items to choose from. There where dolls, basketballs, yoyos, action figures, among other things. Finally, the meerkat made his decision.
'I want that toy robot!' He pointed at the twelve inch blue and red action figure.
The vendor handed it to him and waved good-bye.
'I did it! I never won these things before, thanks Sylvester!'
Sly brushed the boy's kinky, dark-brown hair.
'You were great Damey.'
The two of them didn't say much as they walked around the amusement.
'Silas, used to take him to Coney Island…after my father died.'
Sly didn't say anything, he listened to the child talk about the relationship he had with the deceased Jackal Silas and all the things they used to do. He was always curious about what happened to the meerkat's parents but never wanted to pry. Sly was nodded and gave Damien his full attention.
When the little meerkat finished, he stood in silence.
'Damien, are you ok?'
He looked up to Sly and nodded.
'I know I said this before, but thank you for everything Sylvester.' The two of them embraced each other. The warmth of their hug comforted the meerkat. It reminded him of how Silas and even his father used to hug him.
Later in the evening, the meerkat and raccoon grabbed some Nathan's and looked up at the sky. The sun was descending and the clouds were bundling together. Sly hoped this day never ended, Damien felt this way also.
Sly just smiled at a few of the many wonderful events he had with Damien. He also took him to the movies, playgrounds, and took him to the park to skate. To think that the two them did all these activities in only two weeks, Sly definitely agreed it was the best two weeks of his life.
Three days later, Sly and his gang were on their way to Yonkers, over to Damien's home. Mrs. Jones invited him over for dinner. He asked her if he could bring his friends along, she gladly accepted. Sly wanted them to see Damien before he left. He was already sad that he had to go back to Paris. He was really going to miss Damien and his grandmother. As they were in the car Dimitri was playing his music to the full capacity.
'How do you want it? How does it feel?
Comin up as a ***** in the cash game livin in the fast lane; I'm for real How do you want it? How do you feel? Comin up as a ***** in the cash game livin in the fast lane; I'm for real'
'Dimitri, you need to turn it down man!' Sly shouted as he covered his ears.
Dimitri compiled and turned it down.
'Sorry Cracker-box and friends, you know I like 'Pac. Man, I can't believe that dude is gone. He was the greatest.'
'He's overrated. Rakim was a real emcee.' Murray said with no hesitation.
Dimitri couldn't believe what he heard.
'Hippo-boy, I can't believe you said that. You're lucky we're friends because if not, I would've kicked your ass out of my SUV.'
Murray just snorted.
'Whatever Dimitri, don't get your tacky suit in a bunch.'
'I'm sure that suit has enough wrinkles.' Bentley commented and everyone laughed.
'Y'all be cracking jokes on me. Keep at it and all of y'all will be on street looking stuck on stupid.'
Sly rolled his eyes and gave the Iguana an amusing smile.
'Aww coming on Dimitri, live a little. Besides, you're going to miss us clowning you once we're gone.'
Dimitri shook his head and smirked.
'In your dreams Cracker-box.'
They were nearing the housing projects. They were going to have a splendid time.
Once they entered the building, Bentley and Murray weren't even fazed by how bad it looked. The elevator was so old and in obvious need of repair that it stopped a few times when they were going up.
'Woo, this is bad.' Murray chuckled. 'I don't know what's worse. This place or where Dimitri lives at.'
'Stop hating Hippo-boy!'
As they approached the apartment door, Sly knocked a few times and the door opened with Mrs. Jones greeting all of them.
'Oh Sylvester, it's nice to see you.' She gave him a hug.
His friends snickered at his fake name.
'Oh, this must be your friends.'
'Yes Mrs. Jones, this Bentley, Murray, and Dimitri.' They all shook her hand.
'Please come in.' And they did. Mrs. Jones wandered into her kitchen preparing the food.
'Oh, Damien Sylvester's here.'
Damien ran out of his room and pounced on him. Sly picked him up and gave him a noogie.
'You're here man!' Damien gave him the biggest grin ever.
'Of course Damey.' He put the meerkat down and motioned his friends closer.
'This is Damien. I'm sure you all seen him before but in not-so-good circumstances. This hi-tech genius is Bentley.'
'Salutation kid.' The turtle shook his hand.
'Same too you. Nice wheelchair.'
'This is Murray or The Murray as he likes to call himself.'
'The Murray is happy to meet you Damien!'
'Me too, The Murray.'
'Last but not least, this French Iguana with the tacky suit is Dimitri.'
'Yo, what it is little meerkat baby? This is the bomb diggity to see you little homie!'
'Umm…it's nice to see you too.' The meerkat was a little bewildered by his strange lingo. He tugged Sly's pants and Sly leaned over.
'He sounds weird Sly. Does he talk like that all the time?' Damien whispered.
'Unfortunately, yeah.'
As they made themselves at home and waited on the food, Damien brought out his Super Nintendo and everyone was having a good time playing Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario World. They all took turns playing, too bad Dimitri was struggling to pass level one.
'Man, why you keep dying?' Damien asked as he cocked his eye at Dimitri. 'Donkey Kong is easy!'
'Yo, yo why you gotta be that way little meerkat baby?'
'Hey man, I ain't no baby.' He said as he stuck his tongue out at Dimitri.
'That kid has skills.' Murray noted.
'He sure does.' Bentley agreed.
Sly was in the kitchen talking to Mrs. Jones while she cooked. She chatted for a bit, talking about the weather, old school music, and current events. Before they knew it, she was done and called everyone to the kitchen to fix their own plate. There was creamy macaroni and cheese, crispy fried chicken, fresh black-eyed peas, steaming collard-green, ribs smothered in BBQ sauce, and hot cornbread. Everyone piled their plate and went into the living room since the kitchen was too small.
They all conversed with each other and they stuffed their faces.
'Yo, what exactly is this green stuff?' Dimitri questioned as he picked the greens with a fork.
'Boy you never had collard greens before?' Grandma Jones asked.
'You have to excuse Dimitri. He hasn't lived in New York that long.' Bentley said.
Mrs. Jones was very amused by Sly's friends and got to know each and everyone. She liked how humble and kind they were. She knew these were good people, especially Sly (I mean Sylvester).
They finished their meal and helped clean up the kitchen. Once they finished, Mrs. Jones offered them some coffee and cake. Afterwards, Bentley, Murray, and Dimitri were ready to go.
'I'm going to stick around you guys, I'll see you later.' Sly stated.
'It was nice meeting all of you.' Mrs. Jones said as she waved good-bye.
'Yeah thanks for coming.' Damien added.
'You're welcome.' Bentley said.
'Later and thanks for the invite. The food was delicious!' Murray licked his lips thinking about their meal.
'Yo little meerkat baby, take it easy! Thank you Mrs. Jones! We'll see ya later Cracker-box.'
All of them left after that.
Damien and Sly went into his room because he wanted to show Sly some of his prized baseball cards.
'Look Sly, I got Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron, and Yogi Berra. They're limited editions my friend!'
'Yeah, they are Damey. How did you get a hold of these?' Sly was intrigued by the meerkat's binder full of cards.
'I saved up and traded with others around my way.' He said smugly.
Sly couldn't help but snicker.
'Damien, I enjoyed spending time to you and getting to know you.'
'Me too, you're the coolest and nicest guy I've ever met.'
Sly sighed in sadness.
'You know I have to go in a few days.'
Damien avoided eye contact after that.
'Yeah…' He said slowly. 'Grandma told me.' He took his baseball cards out and shuffled them.
Sly had to word this carefully. He didn't want to upset him.
'I just want you to know that…I see you as a little brother I've always wanted. I'll try to visit you again and I'll even write to you. I'll never forget you.'
The meerkat still didn't look up but he clung on to every word.
'I wished you didn't have to go, man.' He said barely above a whisper.
'Me too.' Was all Sly said.
The Raccoon picked Damien up and held him in his arms. Damien wrapped his arms tightly around Sly's neck. He was trying to be a big boy about all this because he knew this was going to happen, but the hot tears streamed down his face, he sniffled a bit. He hated that the only male figured he had in his life was now leaving him, he was truly heartbroken. First his father, his father's friend Silas, and now Sylvester (aka Sly), people were leaving him now.
'I…don't…want you to…go.' Damien said between sobs and coughs.
Sly just soothed him and patted his back.
Sly didn't like this anymore than Damien did yet good things did come to an end. That's how life worked, no one liked it but it happens. He felt so connected to Damien. To think that if it wasn't for that shooting, as life-threatening as it was, they would have never met. In all honesty, Sly at this point couldn't imagine not being there for Damien on the other hand he couldn't stay. He had his own life in Paris, with Bentley and Murray, as it should be.
Outside the room, Mrs. Jones saw everything and she was wiping the tears away from the face. The Raccoon was the best thing that had ever had to Damien in so long. For a long time, she had been thinking things over about Damien's future. She disappointed in herself for waiting until the last minute to decide to open up about it but it was now or never.
'Sylvester?' She spoke up to catch his attention.
Sly looked up.
'I would like to have a word with you.'
Sly nodded and gently put the now somewhat calm child down.
'I'll be back Damey.'
Damien tears were still trickling down his face but he was a little better, he went back to his cards collection.
The Raccoon and the older meerkat went into the living room out of Damien's earshot and sat on the couch. She had a large photo album, full of pictures of Damien and showed them off to Sly.
'This is my baby when he was about a year old.' The picture showed the little meerkat with wild hair and jean shorts with blue icy pop.
Sly giggled.
'Aww, how cute, he looks like you Mrs. Jones.'
'I know he does.' Her head went back into a hearty laugh.
After looking through a few more pictures of him in various stages, Mrs. Jones decided to say her piece; she had to get it off her chest now while she still had the chance.
'Sylvester, I just want to thank you for everything you have done for Damien. You have been a wonderful and special person.' She smiled wearily.
'Ahh, it was nothing Mrs. Jones, he's such a sweet kid. I'm really going to miss him.'
Mrs. Jones took a deep breath.
'You know Sylvester there has been lot on my mind. I've tried to find many options but nothing seems to go as planned…this is going to be the hardest thing I'll ever ask of anyone in my life. Before you reject, please hear me out, will you?'
Sly was nervous still he placed his hand upon Mrs. Jones' hand and gave it a small squeeze of reassurance.
'Mrs. Jones, I'm all ears, just tell me.'
This was it. No matter how much it may hurt her, she wanted what was best for her grandson.
'I think it's best if…Damien went to live with you.'
Sly was taken aback by the older woman's statement. He gasped as he let go of her hand.
Take her grandson?
The room fell into an eerily nature of silence. The kind of silence in which everything was becoming overwhelming and sudden, Sly was just stunned until he found his voice again.
'Mrs. Jones…you want me to take Damien with me?'
She nodded humbly.
Sly had to pinch himself to make sure this wasn't some illusion. Part of him cared about the meerkat very much yet to be asked to take a child to another country was a tremendous task. He didn't know what to think at this point. He got up from the couch and crossed his arms, looking at her.
'With all due respect, Mrs. Jones, I don't know if that's a good idea.'
'I know this is so last minute and we've only got to know each other for a few weeks. But, everytime I see you and Damien together and how much he talks about you. I know there is something good in you Sylvester. I see the connection and bond you two have with each other. My grandson hasn't been so attached to someone like that in a long time.' She went over to Sly and placed her hand on his shoulder and he turned to face her.
'Mrs. Jones, I don't mean to sound rude or anything but…what happened to his parents?'
Sly was always curious as of the whereabouts of the little boy's parents. He already knew that the father was no longer living but where was the mother in all of this?
Grandma Jones just shook her head.
'I sometimes wonder where I went wrong with my daughter Melissa.'
'When she was sixteen, she got pregnant by Julio, Damien's father. Both of them were too young and silly to be bringing a child in this world.'
Sly said nothing, so she continued.
'When Damien was born, he had a seizure, we feared he wasn't gonna make it but he did. Everyday, his father was at his side while he recovered. I knew Julio was going to be a good father when I saw him holding the baby's tiny hand.'
'He took care of my grandson very well but he wasn't a saint, he was involved with the wrong crowd and I kept telling him to stay away from them. Of course, young men who live in these parts don't listen they think they can do whatever they want.'
'One day when he and Damien was on their way to my home, an enemy of Julio's approached him and shot him several times, right in front of his son, barely six years old. To this day, the police still can't find the person who did it.' The older woman was trying not to cry.
Sly covered his mouth in horror as his eyes grew large. Now, Sly knew that the child more likely didn't have an easy life, especially being shot. Nevertheless, what the older woman revealed to him was difficult to marinate in his mind. Poor Damien witnessed such a heinous act.
Sly led the two of them back to the couch and helped her sit down.
'Sylvester, the child was in shocked he didn't talk for almost two months, he even had nightmares due to the incident. I couldn't afford therapy, so I tried to get him to speak with a school counselor. He still refuses to talk about it to this day, although it's understandable. But lately, his nightmares have been occurring more often now.'
Grandma Jones looked at Sly and held his hand.
'As for his mother, my daughter, Melissa, she was never really a good parent to him. Her and Julio were never married and broke up when Damien was a toddler. Her life has spiraled out of control over the years. When she did have Damien, she would just neglect him. She even left him in a crackhouse, that was the final straw and I took him in. She's in and out of his life constantly, just getting high and letting men use her. She tried to visit recently but Sylvester the way she looked devastated me and as her mother, I made sure my grandson didn't see her like that.'
Sly was even more horrified by the Mrs. Jones' daughter's actions; he couldn't say it entirely surprised him.
'I really don't know what to say, ma'am. This is a lot to take in. I never knew how bad it was for Damey.'
'I've been trying to get other relatives to take him in but all of them either decline or just don't care. How can anyone be so heartless and not help a family member in need? A group home did cross my mind but I didn't want that for him.'
'I grew up in a group home, trust me it's not exactly the best place to grow up in.' Sly understood where she was coming from.
'I don't want him to get lost in the system, it happens more often than not, especially ghetto children.'
'Mrs. Jones, I know there has to be another reason you're giving up Damien, please just tell me and not stall.' Sly wanted to know the real deal.
'I'm sick Sylvester, I was diagnosed with liver cancer a few months back and things aren't going well. I had to stop working because of this illness. I have my good days and other days I just can't deal with the hectic things in my life. If something happens to me, who will Damien look to? God forbid it'll be his trifling hussy of a mother, he will be just like the lost young men who hang around the blocks selling drugs and die before the age of twenty-one.'
Sly nodded, she was telling the truth.
'Let's be real child, Damien has no future here, New York isn't a bad place but these projects aren't a place for an innocent child to grow up in. You're the only one I can look to Sylvester. However, if you're not ok with this, I understand.' She lowered her head.
'Does Damien know you're sick?'
She shook her head.
'Mrs. Jones, he has to know sooner or later.' He uttered softly.
'You don't think I know that Sylvester? I have no idea how I'll tell him this but he doesn't need to know, just not now. He's been through so much.' She was in real despair.
Everything that has been said made Sly reflect. He cared for the little meerkat so much but taking him away with to live with him was going to be a huge adjustment, not just for him but for his friends. What would they say if they didn't agree to this? Sly realized he had to come clean about a few things to the older woman, he didn't know if this was the best thing to do. Still, regardless of the outcome, she deserved to know after all she told him.
'Mrs. Jones, I haven't been entirely honest with you about myself.'
It was her turn to be surprised.
'What is it, son?'
'Here goes nothing.' He thought.
'My real name isn't Sylvester Copper, my real name is Sly Cooper and…and I'm a thief.
Oddly enough, Grandma Jones burst into a fit of laughter. Sly thought the walls would shake from the vibrations. Sly was bemused. Did she think he was joking or was he missing something?
'Child, you think I was born yesterday? I knew Sylvester wasn't your real name. You practically hesitated when you told me the first time we met.'
'Do you hate me for being a thief?' His fear was intensifying.
'Child no, I can tell you're still a good person at heart. I don't know too many thieves who would risk their life for a child. I also can spot that you're no ordinary thief.'
'I only steal from criminals, ma'am. Not the innocent.'
'A modern day Robin Hood, huh?' She cocked her eyebrow the young Raccoon.
Sly just smiled with a nod.
'So, will you take Damien? I still believe you are good for him.'
Sly had a better idea.
'Damien, can you come out for a second?' Sly called out.
The child emerged from his room, he still had few tears in his eyes, he looked so sad with his big dark-brown eyes looking so lost and hopeless.
'You're about to leave?' He questioned grimly.
Sly just grinned.
'How would you like to come live with me in Paris?'
His little face lit up with a bright, angelic smile.
'That'll be awesome!' He shouted as he jumped into Sly's arms but then looked at his grandmother.
'What about grandma?' He wanted to be with Sly though he didn't want his grandmother to be lonely.
'Grandma will be ok, baby. You can write me letters and you can still come visit me during the holidays and the summer.'
He looked back at the Raccoon.
'So, I'm really going with you?'
'Yes you are, Damien, yes you are.'
The next day, Sly was back in Yonkers but for a different reason. When he arrived back to the Bronx last night, he gathered Bentley and Murray and told them everything. Although they initially weren't wild about Sly revealing himself like that but their real concerns were about Damien living with him. He explained his point of view as well as the grandmother's; they understood and accepted the little meerkat as a new addition to the Cooper crew. A lot of changes were in the mist because taking care of a child was going to be an interesting and challenging experience. Sly couldn't wait.
Right now, he wanted to shift his focus on his main objective, the one he was trying to do for the longest and putting it off so much. He was ready to face his darkest fear, the terrible memories of his parents' tragic death. He was officially ready to come to terms with it.
He was heading to the cemetery where his parents' were buried. It made him think back to when he and Damien went to visit Silas many weeks ago. It has been a long time since he went to their grave but he needed this, he wasn't going to run away.
He had a boom box with him; he knew how much they loved music.
It took him a few wrong directions to finally find where they were. The adrenaline was coursing through his veins. He had to get himself together.
The tombstones looked the same as he did the last time he saw them which was back in 1988.
'Here lie Connor Cooper and his wife Lauren Cooper. June 12th 1951 and January 1st, 1954 to May 29th, 1983. Rest in Peace in Paradise.' The engraving said.
He took a few deep breaths.
'H-h-hi m-m-mom and d-da-ddad.' He was stumbling over his words. He reached into his pocket for his sunglasses.
'How have you guys been? I hope heaven is as great as you all pictured it. I'm sure you two already know that I'm a master thief now. I'm also sure you all know that I fought for my birthright of our legendary thievery. The Fiendish Five and Klaww Gang fell down hard with the help of Murray and Bentley.'
He thought about what else to say.
'I'm still doing okay for myself, not bad for someone who practically had to raise himself, huh? Not that it was you guys fault or anything. I'm still robbing but of course never from the innocent. I'm sure you all already know about Carmelita Fox, she's a feisty lady but very motivated in capturing me. But, ever since I kissed her, I knew that things will never be the same. I guess you all never thought your son would fall for a cop, huh mom and dad?'
He smiled at the thought of Carmelita.
'Well, I'm now taking this kid Damien. If you two were here, you would fall in love with the kid. He's very smart, creative, and in some ways like me. He deserves a good life and I want to give him that. I would lay my life down for him…j-j-just l-like y-you two d-d-did for me.'
Sly's heart was rapidly pumping and his voice was failing him.
'I'm sorry you all can't be here. I'm sorry for everything. What happened that night when…when you two were killed, it shouldn't have gone down…no…no…no.'
Images of that night flashed before his eyes, the blood-curdling screams, the shattering of glass, the violence, him seeing his parents' dismantled corpses in body bags, were all surfacing. His eyes glazed over and he stared off into space.
'I-I-I…I bought you guys a little present. I hope you guys still like the oldies.'
He pressed play on the boom box.
'It's a thin line between love and hate
It's a thin line between love and hate
It's five o'clock in the mornin' and you're just gettin' in
i knock on the front door a voice sweet and low says, who is it? She opens up the door and let me in Never once asks where have you been
She says 'Are you hungry? Did you eat yet?
Let me hang up your coat, pass me your hat' All the time she's smilin', never once raises her voice It's five o'clock in the mornin' and i don't give it a second thought
It's a thin line between love and hate
It's a thin line between love and hate It's a thin line between love and hate It's a thin line between love and hate It's a thin line, yes, it is between love and hate...'
Sly removed his sunglasses and as the music played, floating into his ear canals. A stroke of nostalgia hit him so hard he felt the tears run down his face.
He looked out to the sky and the sun was shining over him. He started to laugh until his laughter faded into a heap of uncontrollable mourning. He crumbled to his knees, feeling the damp fall leaves underneath his hands. The cold fall wind blew around him. He was not Sly Cooper the master thief, at this moment he was Sly Cooper, the little miserable eight-year-old boy again, crying for his parents. He released all the pain and suffering that has been tormenting him for a long time.
'I love you mom and dad. You were the best parents ever…and I'm so sorry!'
He repeatedly whispered in sorrow, rocking back and forth.
'I'm so sorry…I'm so sorry…I'm so sorry…'
A/N: OMG, I can't believe this is the longest chapter I have ever written. So now, Damien is going to stay with Sly. That part was based on something that happened with my play Uncle. My Uncle dated a woman with a kid and he loved him so much that the little boy was calling him daddy. The boy's grandmother even offered my Uncle to take him but the difference between Sly and my Uncle is that at the end, he felt it was best if the boy stayed with his mother. Many things have been revealed with the OC characters. My grandmother is sick right now and she has liver cancer, so yeah, this chapter did get to me a bit. I hope you guys liked this chapter. Please leave a comment/feedback. The Next Chapter will be about the adjustment andSly and Carmelita will MEET AGAIN! BTW, the music is 'How Do You Want It?' by 2pac and 'Thin Line Between Love and Hate' by The Persuaders. Oh and to all my followers and guests thank you for the support! I appreciate, feel free to PM with questions or comments.
The Sly Cooper animated series finally has a release date and a debut trailer.
According to a listing from PGS Entertainment, the Sly Cooper series will start airing on TV starting in October of 2019. The current plan is for 52 11-minute episodes to air between then and July 2020. While the trailer shows signs of the charms of the original game, the announcement that this series is geared towards a “6-10 years old audience” tends to suggest that it might not have as much appeal as the games the series is based on.
If you missed the initial news, Technicolor Animation Productions announced that they have teamed up with Sony to produce a television series based on the Sly Cooper game series. The series will reportedly stick quite close to the story of the games by following Sly and his band of thieves as they steal for good and try to stay one step ahead of the law. The show will supposedly also feature many famous villains and side characters from the series.
“There is no doubt that teenagers will be happy to rediscover their beloved game as a series, while younger kids will be charmed by the debonair raccoon and his exciting universe,” said Technicolor Animation Productions’ Sandrine Nguyen.

If you’re thinking to yourself, “Wait, wasn’t someone working on a Sly Cooper animated film?” then you’re wondering the same question many people hearing this news are asking themselves. A Sly Cooper animated movie was announced back in 2014. Reports suggested that it was supposed to debut in 2016, but as you may have noticed, that did not happen.
At this time, it’s still unclear whether or not that film has been scrapped in favor of an animated series or whether the two will co-exist in some way. However, given that nobody has talked about the film in quite some time, we’re guessing that the show may have taken the film’s place.
The last core Sly Cooper game was 2013’s Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. There’s been no word from Sony regarding any franchise sequels in development.
